Support
Your first battle, playing with friends, and help when something goes wrong. Devolution is operated by A1Base Inc.
Install and start playing
The current download is Mac preview 0.1.5 (build 20), for macOS 11 or later on Apple silicon and Intel. It is a direct Mac download. This site does not currently offer Windows/Linux downloads or an App Store or Steam release.
- Download the Mac ZIP, then double-click it to unzip.
- Move Devolution to your Applications folder and open it.
- Choose Play, select a battlefield and difficulty, then choose Start battle. You can play against the AI offline.
For a newer release, use Check for updates in the game menu. Your friends should update too before you join the same online game. Installation and update downloads need an internet connection.
If the download or signature looks wrong, stop and contact us with the exact message. Do not disable your Mac’s security protections.
Play with friends
- Open Multiplayer → Create game and choose a battlefield and rules.
- Under Host on, choose Online — Invite only. Choose an available server, or keep the automatic choice, then create the game.
- Copy the room code from the lobby and share it privately with your friends.
- Your friends choose Multiplayer → Join with room code and enter that code.
- Choose your factions. The creator selects Start match when everyone has joined; the countdown waits for everyone to load.
To meet other players, use Browse games, or create a game with Online — Public. Hosted online games do not require router port forwarding. Hosting on your own computer or LAN is a separate option.
Large battlefields support up to 24 factions, including AI. Empty faction slots can be filled by AI. Available online rooms depend on hosting capacity; if hosting is full, join an available public game or try again later.
Chat in the lobby and during a match
Choose Room chat, or press Enter to open it. Type a message and press Enter to send; Escape closes the panel. Close chat to issue battlefield orders. The match keeps running while you type.
Everyone in your room can read the conversation. It is shared between the lobby and the match; there is no private team channel or separate global chat. Keep personal information and room codes out of public conversations.
To hide someone’s messages, select a message and choose Block player. Use Blocked players to unblock them later. Choose Report message to send that selected message and a reason to support. The full conversation is not automatically submitted.
Keep the private ticket link to read the response to a report. See the Community rules for reporting and appeal guidance, and the Privacy policy for how messages and reports are handled.
Fix a connection or performance problem
- “Different version” or an incompatible room
- Check for updates, restart the game and refresh the browser. Everyone, including the host, needs the matching release. If a server has not updated yet, try another compatible room.
- I disconnected during a match
- Give the game a moment to reconnect before creating a new room. Recovery depends on the original room still running and your seat still being reserved. Choosing Leave deliberately releases your place.
- There are no available servers
- Hosting may be full or temporarily unavailable. Refresh Browse games, try an available public room, or play solo while you wait. An invite code stops working after its room closes.
- The game feels slow
- For delayed online actions, choose a nearby available server and use a stable connection. For choppy animation, close other demanding apps and try a smaller battlefield with fewer factions. Report whether it happens offline too so we can distinguish rendering from network delay.
- Chat is temporarily unavailable
- Chat needs a connection to the moderation service. If it cannot connect, messaging may pause while gameplay continues. Try again later, or use the support link below if it persists.
